MONTEREY Va. OCT 18 (1861) clearly struck CDS with neat matching encircled “5” and manuscript “unpaid Due” above it. CSA catalog type D listed with asterisk, meaning not seen by the editors but was continued as a legacy listing. I’m not sure why as this seems to be the photo image and thus may be the only one recorded. Addressed to Mrs. Margaret E. Dunlop, Jennings Gap, Augusta Ga. Va. Soldier endorsement of Robt. B. Dunlap, Co A, 52nd Reg Va. Vols. Ex Harrison. $200.

Robert Bailey Dunlap (1839-1924) was a 26-year-old farmer when he enlisted at Staunton, Virginia, as a private. He mustered into Company A, 52nd Virginia Infantry. He reenlisted on May 1, 1862. He was wounded at Port Republic in the hip on June 9, 1862. He was returned August 31, 1863.
