SEP 27 CDS with handstamped "Due" and "10" in circle, (CC type G), on clean soldier's cover to Benjamin Browning, Westland PO Halifax Co N.C. with mandated soldier endorsement from Private J.? Browning Co. D 24th Regt of N.C. Vols,top back flap missing otherwise Very Fine, Ex John Vagnetti. $200.

J.F Browning. The only Browning I could find that seemed to match was 18-year-old John F. Browning from Halifax County who mustered into Co. D, NC 24th Infantry as a private May 15, 1862. He was promoted to corporal August 15, 1862, but died November 23, 1862, of catarrhus in Gordonsville, Va., Hospital. Catarrh is the medical term for a buildup of mucus in the back of the nose, throat, or sinuses.
