Richard Bayly Buck (1844-1888) was the son, and second of nine children, of Marcus Blakemore Buck and Jane Letitia Bayly Buck. From Front Royal, Warren County, Va., Lt. Buck was one of the only nine men of his decimated company to surrender at Appomattox. More than 200 letters to and from Lt. Buck are housed at UVA.
