James K. Davis enlisted March 26, 1862, at Abingdon, Va, as a second sergeant. He was mustered into Co. E Virginia 63rd Infantry and transferred to field and staff. He also served in field and staff of 54th Virginia Battalion Infantry. He was transferred out at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9th with Lee's army. He was surrendered April 26, 1865, at Greensboro, NC. He was promoted to Sergeant Major March 1, 1863.
