Capt. Rueben Chapman Jr. mustered into Co. H, 22th Regiment Alabama Infantry 11 June 1861. Was in charge of the Pickens County Guards. He resigned 16 June 1862 with a surgeon’s certificate of disability by order of Genl. R.E. Lee. He had signed up for the war but “was attacked with a disease of the bowels from which I have been unable to recover.”
