Robert B. Isbell (1836-1921) was a 25-year-old miller when he enlisted May 13, 1861, at Lynchburg as a 2nd Corpl; he mustered into Co. B, Virginia 2nd Cavalry, Army of Northern Virginia. He was listed as sick 9-20-62 behind enemy lines (ugh) and returned a month or so later. he was wounded May 8, 1864 at Todd’s Tavern, Va., Battle of Spotsylvania, and remained hospitalized for many months. He rose through the ranks to 2nd Lieut.
