DARLINGTON C.H. S.C. APR 6 circular datestamp with matching PAID 10 (type C, CCV 4200) on cover to Mr. D. Gaudy, Mar’s Bluff S.C. with original letter headed Marion S.C. April 2nd 1864 from W.H. Godbolt to Col. E.W. Charles, Darlington, S.C. saying that “George the blacksmith belonging to the estate of Gibson (clearly a slave) died at my plantation about a week ago and left an old horse and some other things.” He wonders about the disposition of this enslaved person’s possessions. Wonderful slave-related piece. $200.
