General Patrick Henry Nelson (1824-1864) was a SC Militia General in 1860. On April 15, 1861, he was reduced in rank to Brig. General. He was in charge of the second brigade of SC Volunteers during the Battle of Fort Sumter. He was also a Confederate States army officer. Nelson was killed during the Siege of Petersburg in June 1864. He was a wealthy planter who owned two plantations and 110 slaves.
