WARRINGTON Fla. OCT 30 (1861) with matching PAID 5 (type B) on fresh cover to Mrs. J. D. Alison, Care of D W B Townsend, Selma Ala. $350.
Dr. Joseph Dill Alison (1828–1905) was a prominent 19th-century physician who lived and practiced in Dallas County, Alabama. His wife was Henrietta Catherine Townsend. They married on March 11, 1852, and raised a large family together in Carlowville.
Dr. William B. Townsend was a prominent Selma physician, planter, and Henrietta's relative. Because Carlowville was a smaller rural community, mail intended for the Alisons was often routed through Dr. Townsend’s more central, established office or home in Selma.
