CSA 4, 5¢ blue vertical pair, Stone 2, positions 20-30, uncanceled or lightly pen canceled on gray and white wallpaper cover with ROCKY MOUNT N.C. MAY 25 CDS with manuscript Paid 10, plated by prior owner and not verified by me; was in an old time collection for at least six decades so if stamps were added, it was many moons ago; sold on its own merits. I believe they likely belong. Addressed to G.W. Blount, Esq. Wilson N.C. Ex Burton. $500. George Washington Lafayette Blount (1837-1895) was a lawyer and judge. He joined the Confederate Army as a 1st Lieutenant, serving in Company A, 55th NC Regiment, despite being a Unionist. He was promoted to captain but by November 1, 1862, he was dismissed to become mayor of Wilson. He is thought to have been instrumental in saving Wilson from being burned by Union soldiers.
