Dr. William Hunt Hall (1833-1918) was born in Wilmington, NC and received his undergraduate degree from UNC and his M.D. degree from the University of the City of New York Medical Department, afterward attending lectures and hospital service in Europe. He was appointed Asst. Surgeon to rank in 1862 and served in both Va and NC, but taken sick with typhoid enteritis in 1863 and was unfit for duty for a month. In 1864 he was a Medical Purveyor but served as Asst. Surgeon in Fayetteville in 1864 and 1865. Practiced medicine in New York after the war where he ultimately died.
