Daniel Ruggles (1810-1897) was a Confederate brigadier general and a division commander at the Battle of Shiloh. Despite being a known abolitionist from Massachusetts and serving in the U.S. Army, Ruggles married a woman from Virginia who held Confederate beliefs. Much more biographical info easily found online.
