STATES applied in Canada and 4d ship fee assessed as noted by large pencil “4”. “Owen Island” crossed out and redirected to “Montreal” which is boldly written across top. Owen Island is an islet in Ontario. The region now known as Ontario was known as Canada West from 1841-1867. Cover backstamps show routing as BAHAMAS JU 6 1863, OWENS SOUND JU 16 and MONTREAL JU 19 / 63.
