McClenaghan, Horry Dist., So Ca, redirected to Marion C.H., S.C.; slight reduction at left with minor insect damage, still Very Fine, Confederate Use of US Postage, CCV $300., Ex MacBride, Zimmerman, and R. Capt. John Charles McClenaghan
, a native of the Marion District, was mustered into the Confederate Quartermaster Department April 13, 1861. He was cited for bravery at First Manassas while serving as the regimental quartermaster. He died of disease on Morris Island March 15, 1863. His papers (1835-1863) are housed in South Caroliniana Library (Columbia, SC). Capt. McClenaghan was in Co. E, Gregg's First, 8th South Carolina Volunteers.
