Col. Samuel McDowell Reid Sr. (1790-1869) was a wealthy landowner and slave holder from Lexington, Virginia. He was a trustee of Washington & Lee University 1816-69, as well as secretary of the board 1844-53. He was a member of the Virginia legislature 1859-65. His papers are housed at W&L.
