Tunnel Hill, a city in Whitfield County, Georgia, was named for the 1,477-foot railroad tunnel excavated through the Chetoogeta Ridge in 1848-49. The city served in 1864 as a winter camp for General Joseph E. Johnston's Confederate troops during the Civil War.
