CSA 7-R, 5¢ blue on local paper (vertical creases, both stamps), tied COLUMBUS (GA) on small homemade cover that is reduced at right into the address to Miss Della Hi(ghtower), at upper left “Care of Seaborn Hightower.” $55.

Seaborn Johnson Hightower (1835-1920) was married to Georgia Tabitha Amojine Morgan “Georgie” (1842-1919) in 1858. “Seab” was a private in Company H, 5th Georgia Regiment. He lost an arm in the fighting around Atlanta when Sherman made his advance on the city. His brother, Harvey Judson Hightower (1839-1914), served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Co G, 20th Georgia Regiment Volunteer Infantry. Letters from both (mostly Harvey) are in the Georgia Archives Manuscript Collection.
