CSA 5a, 10¢ carmine tied by neat GREENSBOROUGH ALA JUN 12 CDS on cover to F. B. Satterthwaite, Greenville, Pitt Co., N. Carolina; professionally, and beautifully, restored cover tear done after 2024 CWPAS certificate 06472 was issued to confirm the rare color shade. An unusually deep color for this scarce carmine shade. SCV $5,000. $3,000.

Fenner Bryan Satterthwaite (1813-1875) was born near Leechville, Beaufort County; married Annie E. Laughinghouse (1812-1900) ca. 1835; was elected to House of Representatives from Beaufort Co., 1836; settled on a farm in Pitt County, 1839; studied law with John S. Hawks, 1842; admitted to the NC Bar, in 1843. He represented Pitt County at the Raleigh Secession Convention on May 20, 1861. He was well known and influential.
