CSA 2-Y, 10¢ light milky blue Stone Y tied light MADISON NC 37mm balloon postmark on cover to Lieut R.L. Cox, Care Capt. A.C. Blackburn 52nd Regt. N.C. Troops, Petersburg Va., open 3 sides, bit war weary. Ex Harrison. $400.

Aurelius C. Blackburn was a 22-year-old student when he enlisted April 3, 1862, as a captain and was mustered into Co. K, NC 52ndInfantry. He was killed at Gettysburg July 1, 1863.

Romulus Leedy Cox was a 27-year-old teacher when he enlisted April 3, 1862, at Forsyth County, Co. C, as a second lieutenant. He was commissioned into Company K, North Carolina 52nd Infantry. He was wounded at Globe Tavern, Va., and hospitalized in Richmond Va. He was hospitalized again March 4, 1865, in Richmond. He was paroled at Greensboro, NC, May 9, 1865. He was promoted to first lieutenant July 1, 1863, and was acting commander of Company C on May 15, 1864.
