John W. Lancaster was a resident of Minden, La., who enlisted in the Confederate Army March 15, 1862. He served in the notable Minden Rangers, officially designated as Company C of the 28th Mississippi Cavalry. Despite its Mississippi designation the unit was comprised entirely of men from Louisiana. He was on a roll of prisoners in October 1862.
