CSA 12a, 10¢ milky blue (bit of gum soak at upper left) tied blue RALEIGH N.C. JUL 5 double-circle datestamp on cover to Geo. Moore Esq Consul H. Richmond Va. Small stain at center; red wax seal on back flaps. Nice consular piece. $190.

George Moore was her Britannic Majesty’s consul for the port of Richmond and State of Virginia from September 1858 to June 5, 1863, when his exequatur was revoked by the Confederate government (President Jefferson Davis and Judah P. Benjamin, Secretary of State). He had been in consular service since the 1830s.
