Elisha D. Oliver was a 20-year-old farmer when he enlisted April 24, 1861 at Prince Edward county, Va., as a first Lieutenant in Co. D, Virginia 18th infantry. He was promoted to captain April 26, 1862. He was taken prisoner at Gettysburg July 3, 1863, where he was wounded severely in the right arm, which was amputated. He was retired on October 5, 1864. He died April 30, 1876.
