Captain J. Randolph Mordecai was an assistant quartermaster and the son of Moses Mordecai, a very prominent Jewish citizen and merchant of Charleston. Private Lazarus was a member of Company A, Palmetto Guards, Manigault’s South Carolina Light Artillery Battalion, often referred to as the Siege Train Artillery Battalion.
