CSA 1, 5¢ green tied manuscript Jackson [Georgia] May 29 [1862] on cover to “Col. D. J. Bailey Box 500 Savannah Geo”. Georgia Congressman David J. Bailey established Camp Bailey with the permission of Governor Joseph E. Brown - Company K, "Chattahoochee Volunteers". Detailed biographical information included with lot. [GA] $200.

David J. Bailey enlisted in the 30th Georgia Infantry on October 7, 1861. Although there is no further official military record of him, there is more information online, to wit, in September 1861, Georgia Congressman David J. Bailey established Camp Bailey with the permission of Governor Joseph E. Brown. Camp Bailey was located between Fairburn and Palmetto, Georgia along the railroad track. Bailey recruited men of Campbell and Carroll Counties along the Chattahoochee River for the Confederacy. This company became known as Company K, the "Chattahoochee Volunteers". Bailey was an attorney from Jackson, Butts County, Georgia and variously served as congressman and senator as well as an officer in the Seminole and Creek Wars.
