CSA 12, 10¢ blue (small faults) with faint manuscript postmark on FARMVILLE FEMALE INSTITUTE, A. Preot, Proprietor, college cover corner card (CSA Catalog type VA-10, CCV $750 for just the cover) to Miss Lucie White, Care of A. Preot, Farmville, Va., with Farmville Female College letterhead dated March 25 (no year) from her sister, Willie - mostly family and friends news, but quite interesting nonetheless – Willie admonishing Lucie not to pray for death and wishing she’d never been born. Attractive set. $500.

Arnaud Eduard Préot (1818-1873), a native of Lille, France, served as the second principal of Farmville Female College from 1862-1869. He moved to Buckingham County in the 1850s to teach music and French at the Female Collegiate Institute, which faltered and closed its doors at the beginning of the Civil War. Préot was named president after George La Monte left the school. He died when a keg of beer exploded in his face. I wrote a brief article on him shown on my webstie at https://www.trishkaufmann.com/files/ASDJUN09.pdf
