Thomas Peter Ashmore (1812-1884) published the first newspaper in Marion County, Georgia, where he also served as surveyor for a number of years. It is said that he was a man of brilliant intellect, but was a recluse. He never married and lived largely to himself. He possessed great genius for mathematics and astronomy.
