Porter King was a lawyer and plantation owner, a member of the Alabama legislature and a circuit court judge in Alabama. He graduated at age 18 from University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. He first enlisted 24 April 1861 at age 37 as a captain in Company G, 4th Alabama Infantry, Captain King’s Company K, (Marion Light Infantry). Discharged 22 April 1861 by expiration of term at Yorktown. 1 May 1862 elected Lt. Col. In Field & Staff Alabama 41st Infantry, Col. Talbird’s Regiment. The Library of Congress has a map drawn of the First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas) by Capt. Porter King, 4th Alabama Regiment.
