CSA 12-AD-if (CSA Catalog) 10¢ light blue imprint plate number strip of 6 with NO FIRM NAME“Bank Note Engrave Richmond, Va. No. 4” This was suggested as a Keatinge & Ball print by a prior owner, but Dr. Harry Brittain irrefutably confirmed it with forensic testing as Archer & Daly; dull original gum, lightly hinged with minor light internal gum creases. CSA CV $325 just for imprint strip, TEXTILE MARKS alone catalog $300 as singles in Scott Specialized Catalogue. Scarce and Very Pretty. $450.

TEXTILE MARKS have the appearance of laid-paper lines but are caused by the worn felt in the water-removal belts in the paper-making machinery. Such varieties are considerably scarcer than normal issues. Scott began listing them in the 2020 Specialized Catalogue and future CSA catalogs will doubtless carry such listings as well. See full explanation in the Kaufmann article in the 2Q 2019 Confederate Philatelist. SCV for CSA 12, unused Textile Marks variety is $50, used $75, on cover valued at 3 times regular cover value.
