RICHMOND / Va. // JUL / 5 / 1862 bold clear CDS with matching PAID 10 on Confederate stampless cover to Miss Sallie R. Munford, Care of Col. T. T. Munford, Forest Depot, Bedford Cty (Virginia). At top of cover is “Charge Ex Dept. G.W.M.” Ex Benson. $125.

George Wythe Munford (1803-1882) He obtained his degree of Bachelor of Law at the College of William and Mary. He was employed by his father to assist him in his duties as Clerk of the House of Delegates, and succeeded him in that position in 1825. He was Clerk of the Constitutional Convention of 1829-30, and resigned as Clerk of the House of Delegates to become Secretary of the Commonwealth, in which capacity he served the State 12 years longer. Col. Munford was twice commander of the Richmond Light Infantry Blues, and was elected the first president of the Blues Association. Brigadier General Thomas Taylor Munford and Lt. Col. William Munford, both of the CSA, were children of his first marriage. Sallie Radford Munford (1841-1930) was the daughter of George Wythe Munford & Elizabeth Thorowgood Ellis.
