A. Newton Steele enlisted 11 June 1861 as a 1st lieutenant in Company G, Alabama 11th Infantry where he served as a commissary officer as of 20 August 1861. Probate papers were granted to his parents 1 October 1862. He died on 2 July 1862 of wounds received at the Battle of Fauquier Farm near Richmond 30 June 1862.
