William McIntosh Arnold was from Hancock County, Georgia and enlisted on April 22, 1861 as a Captain into Co. A, GA 6th Infantry (Sydney Brown Infantry). He was wounded in three battles – Malvern Hill, Sharpsburg and Chancellorsville before ultimately losing his life at Petersburg July 7, 1864. He was promoted to Major and Lt. Col. and commanded the unit as field officer.
