Wilkins (or Wilkens) Stovall was a 25 year-old farmer when he enlisted as a private (promoted to 1st Lieut) in Co D 12th NC Infantry. He later transferred to Co. K, 55th N.C. He was wounded at Gettysburg and taken prisoner at Falling Waters, MD. He was first confined to Old Capitol Prison in D.C. and transferred to Johnson’s Island a few weeks later, where he remained for almost two years.
