CSA 8, 2¢ brown red with minor double transfers in both TWO CENTS and POSTAGE, tied by neat CHARLESTON / S.C. // FEB / 9 / 186_ cds on local drop cover addressed to Assistant Surgeon G. W. Garmany, 1st S.C. Artillery, Half Moon Battery, Charleston, S.C. with manuscript "O.B." (Official Business) and “The P.O. Charleston SC” at top, [SC] Wonderful medical local drop use which comes with unpublished and very detailed bio courtesy of the F. T. Hambrecht & J. L. Koste biographical register of physicians who served the Confederacy in a medical capacity. SCV $1,500. $1,300.

Surgeon George W. Garmany (1814-1890) was born in the Newberry District of S.C. He enlisted in 1st SC Infantry 7-27-61 as a private. He received his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, VA (from: SC). He is shown serving various units in various states. In 1862, he was ordered to report to Surgeon William T. Wragg as Asst. Surgeon to Negro Hospital, Charleston, SC, "and in addition to this duty to report to Major Williams as Asst. Surgeon to Reserve Camp under his orders, stationed in Charleston [SC]. Post-war, he practiced medicine in Newberry C.H., S.C. until his death.
