This is one of the few that can be definitively dated with the docketing of May 29, 1863, up the left side – VERY EARLY USE, Ex Doug Baker. $1,200.

Ladson Lawrence Fraser, Sr. (1804-1889) was a wealthy slave-owning planter. His son, of the same name, was a lawyer and newspaper editor (Sumter Watchman) who was exempt from military service for medical reasons and helped his father supervise their plantations. Brothers Thomas and William fought in the war. The family papers, 1794-1936, are housed at the South Carolina Historical Society.
