CSA 12-AD, 10¢ light blue—almost milky (4 margins) used on cover with Blue Mt [Ala] November 10 manuscript postmark (day date on stamp) to Mrs. H.A. Ratcliffe, Clifton, Wilcox Co[unty] Ala. Correspondence researched by Galen Harrison and with accompanying paperwork. Ex Roger Ballard. $250.

Hamilton A. Ratcliffe mustered in at age 17 as a private in (Old) Company C, 6th Regiment Alabama Infantry on 16 May 1861 at Clifton, Ala. He was described as 5’4” tall, dark complexion, gray eyes, light hair and by occupation a farmer. This company became the 8th Alabama Cavalry and he was in Company E. He was surrendered at Citronelle, Ala on 4 May 1865 and paroled at Gainesville, Ala. 14 May 1865. He was later appointed as postmaster at Camden, Alabama.
