CSA 12c-AD, 10¢ greenish blue tied well struck Army of Northern Virginia field cancel, CSA Catalog ANV-13 (used in 1863-65), on clean homemade cover to Miss T. Addie Cotton, Montgomery Co, N.C. On verso is endorsement of Lieut. B. T. Cotton, Co. K. 34 Reg. N.C. T. Richmond, Va.By this time, soldiers were not supposed to be endorsing their covers in order to cover troop movements – the reason for no town cancels. [VA] [NC] $150.

Burrel T. Cotton was a 24-year old farmer (great name for a farmer!) who enlisted on 9-9-61 as a 1st Sergeant in Co. K, 34th NC Infantry. He was wounded 6-30-62 at Frayser’s Farm and promoted to 3rd Lieut 7-30-62. He was killed on 6-22-64 near Petersburg.
