Jacob Carman Purdy (1834-1916) enlisted at New Orleans, May 26, 1861, as a private. 1st Lt. Jacob Purdy served with Companies B, E, and G, 1st Louisiana Heavy Artillery, Army of Northern Virginia. Military records show him stationed at Redoubt No. 6, Mobile, Ala., April 1, 1864. He was paroled May 10, 1865, at Meridian, Miss., after surrender to US Maj. Gen. Cantey by CSA Lt. Gen. R. Saylor. His wife was Annie Newman Purdy (1845-1912). They are buried at the Walker Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas. His middle name sometimes seen spelled Carmen instead of Carman.
